Voorhees is a Camden County community of over 29,000 citizens as of 2010 census data. This community was first established in the 19th century and is named after the governor that authorized its incorporation, Foster McGowan Voorhees. A Brief History of Voorhees Township 

Before establishing colonial settlements in the area, what would eventually be known as Voorhees in 1899 was originally home to the Algonquian Lenni-Lenape Nation. Indigenous peoples have inhabited the New Jersey area for at least 10,000 years, according to archaeological findings. The Lenni-Lenape were largely nomadic farmers, hunters, and traders who moved to the Atlantic coast during the summer months. One of the paths the Lenni-Lenape preferred for their travels was so well-worn that it eventually became a stagecoach stop. 

Voorhees was incorporated from part of Waterford Township, established by a royal charter in 1695 and named after a town of the same name in Ireland. Today, Waterford has less than half the population of Voorhees and surrounding communities. Its centuries-long legacy has created a tight-knit network of New Jersey towns in the Delaware River Valley.
